The Boracay of Cebu – Malapascua Island

January 27, 2013 – The day where we unexpectedly destined to Malapascua, we were actually about to go home from our overnight at Kalanggaman Island, but the boatmen offered us to pay for an additional fee at a very cheap price for the gas for us to be able to sail our way to Malapascua – this was considered as his (the boatmen) birthday gift to my friend who is actually celebrating her birthday that day, and we accepted the deal, why not? Some of us had never been there, neither I.  We were all very excited.

Malapascua Island is a Filipino island situated in the Visayan Sea, located across a shallow strait from the northernmost tip of Cebu Island. Administratively, it is part of the insular barangay of Logon, Daanbantayan Municipality, Cebu Province, the Philippines. Malapascua is a tiny island, only about 2.5 kilometres (1.6 mi) long and 1 kilometre (0.62 mi) wide, and has eight hamlets.

The sea was calm, and we had a smooth travel. As we sail our way going to the island, we saw dolphins, we learned that by clapping our hands, the dolphins will come closer, and there we clap and clap, (clapping our happiness because it was really our first time seeing dolphins).

After 2 hours, we finally arrived to Malapascua, it was a very hot morning but the hotness can’t stop us from exploring the island. We toured around, took many pictures, talked with some foreign visitors, bought souvenirs and had swimming there.

Malapascua Exotic Island Dive Resort is the only complete dive resort on Malapascua. T only 5* National Geographic IDC resort and the first dive shop on the island.
Evolution brings you progressive recreational and technical diving in a world class setting.

The Craic House is the best bar on Malapascua, no ifs, buts or maybes. It’s an Irish bar on a Filipino beach, or a Filipino bar with warm Irish hospitality and a Celtic commitment to fun and frivolity. You choose.

The name “Malapascua” is said to have been given by some Spaniards whose ship happened to get stranded in the island on Christmas Day, December 25, 1520, due to bad weather. Because of their misfortune of having to spend Christmas away from their comrades and family stuck in a desolate island, the Spaniards called the island Mala Pascua, which literally means “Bad Easter”. From then on the Spaniards and the non-locals would refer to the island as Malapascua, while the local residents insist that their place is called Logon.

The island was such a paradise, a perfect diving spot, the white sand all over the island, the clear white blue crystal water and the place offers a perfect ambiance for a vacation getaway. I wanna go back there so soon!

Malapascua Island is only about half an hour travel from Maya, Cebu. (Depending on the type of pump-boat.used).

Thanks to my friends for sharing this wonderful experience with me and to the birthday Girl Ate Adele for making the happened.
